News ReleaseElectroid Introduces Complete "Family" of Front-End Stepper/Servo Motor BrakesToday's Date -- 02/25/00 SPRINGFIELD, NJ - A complete "family" of front-end brakes specifically designed for use on stepper and servo motors has been introduced by Electroid. Electroid has been a leader in the design and manufacture of electromagnetic clutches, brakes and related products for rotary motion control for more than fifty years.
Loads being driven either vertically or at an incline make it necessary for
the designer to provide for a safety mechanism. Should the power be
interrupted, the load would backdrive the motor. In certain applications, the
designer may require a mechanism to hold the load in place. Electroid's
"family" of front-end mounted stepper/servo brakes provides an ideal
solution, with ease and speed of installation, modularity and cost efficiency.
The Stepper/Servo "Family" was specifically designed and engineered to offer users a choice in the sizes and features needed for the specific application. Consisting of Models FEB, RFEB and SSB, all brakes are power-off, or "failsafe" units that mount easily to the front end of a stepper or servo motor as an added safety feature or for holding the load in place. A power-off or "failsafe" brake holds the load when the power is turned off: Power OFF - Brake ON. If the power fails, the brake will engage and stop the load. All models in the ELECTROID family of front end stepper/servo motor brakes are suitable for such applications as: office and factory automation, material handling, robotics, CNC tools and systems, medical equipment, computer "chip" manufacturing equipment, clean room manufacturing equipment, electronic circuit board manufacturing, packaging machinery, etc. Several sizes, torque ranges and other important features differentiate the FEB, RFEB and SSB models, however they all feature the following common elements:
